Recipe: High Protein, Sugarless Nut & Cacao Spread

Do It Yourself High Protein Nut Butter
Why should the manufacturers have all the fun? Making your own spread might seem like hard word when you can buy it straight off the shelf. But it is actually surprisingly easy to whip up. And makes you feel smug and homely. Unlike making jam, which takes time and attention, this high protein nut butter requires basically no cooking and only a few minutes prep. The amounts below make one small pot - adjust the recipe upwards to make a bigger batch.

Ingredients: High Protein Cacao and Nut Butter

Method: Sugar-free Protein Spread

  1. For extra flavour, roast your almonds briefly in the oven. 5 minutes should be plenty. Then let them cool a little.
  2. Blend the first 4 ingredients until smooth (everything except the almonds)
  3. Add the almonds to the blender, and pulse until a crunchy paste forms. Or if you prefer smooth nut butter, blend everything until smooth.
Note: if you haven't let your almonds cool, the coconut oil will go very runny. Don't worry, this will still form a solid spread at room temperature. This recipe provides a great balance of protein and fats, without any refined sugars or palm oil usually found in store-bought spreads. Enjoy! protein nut and cacao spread
